The Amphibians of the reserve

Ticino's waters expanded in the Wetlands create the perfect habitats for various species of amphibians. How to recognize between species of amphibians?

From riverbeds to floodplains, from oxbows to canals, from resurgences to fountains, there are many environments along the entire flow of the Ticino River that create so- called Wetlands.

In these areas where the waters are not devoid of strong currents and rich in aquatic vegetation, perfect habitats are created for various species of amphibians. For example, the most inland areas with waters that are not too warm are the favorites of the Lataste's frog. The green frog, dalmatine frog and common toad, on the other hand, will be easier to find in open, sunny areas. In larger bodies of water, the greater presence of fish discourages almost all amphibians, apart from the daring common toad. To be able to observe newts and tree frogs, you will need to look in small to medium-sized wetlands.

But how to recognize the various species of amphibians found in Ticino Park? We propose a diagram for identification of adult individuals.
